COVID-19 Updates Launched

Liverpool LDC have put together this website to keep local dentists up to date on what is happening currently. Please ask a question if you would like any further information or check back here regularly.

We are currently awaiting a meeting (video) with NHS England to discuss the local situation. We are pressing for this but the AT have so far been unable to meet with us. It is our current understanding that:

  • Local dentists are not to see patients face to face at all (see CDO letter 3).
  • Urgent care centres are in process of being setup but we do not know where or who will be staffing them.
  • Aerosol Generating Procedures will require FFP3 masks along with training and fit testing. Practices should not order these and attempt to carry out treatments without appropriate advice and training from our local IPCT, protocols can vary with environment. We understand NHSE are commissioning these services along with training.
  • Dentists and staff teams are being asked to volunteer for other NHS roles – it appears only some practices have been sent this request. Practices are struggling to make decisions on this basis given the urgent dental situation is unclear.
  • 100% NHS practices will be paid their contract for “full” cooperation with redeployment of staff.
  • Private practices should furlough staff.
  • Mixed practices are left unclear – the BDA and LDC’s are making urgent representations on this.
