Paediatric CDS Update

Information for GDPs in Liverpool, Sefton and Knowsley

Paediatric CDS Update: October 2020

URGENT REFERRALS:  We continue to operate a telephone triage line every day 9 am to 4.30pm.  GDPs can call 0151 295 8643 to speak to an experienced paediatric dental nurse who can then arrange a call back from our duty paediatric dentist if required.

ROUTINE REFERRALS: We still cannot accept routine paediatric referrals. Any routine GDP referral will be returned and the patient informed.

PAEDIATRIC GA: Access to paediatric GA across Liverpool, Sefton and Knowsley remains extremely limited and is currently only available for patients with an urgent dental need. Patients need to self-isolate and have a Covid swab 72 hours pre-operatively.

REFERRALS PRIOR TO LOCKDOWN: We are managing a large number of patients who were referred into our service for assessment prior to lockdown. We are writing to these patients to enquire if an assessment is still required.  If we receive no response after 14 days or an appointment is declined, patients will be discharged back to their GDP. Patients requiring an assessment will be advised of the length of time to assessment due to the number of patients already under treatment.

RESUMPTION OF PAEDIATRIC CDS CLINICS: We are resuming clinical care across Liverpool, Sefton and Knowsley for those patients whose treatment was interrupted due to lockdown. We are prioritising patients but will be in a position to undertake AGPS and treatment under inhalation sedation for patients currently under our care.
